SOS boys upend MMC, 66-42

PAULLINA - South O'Brien had four players crack double figure scoring to upend a good Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys team 66-42 in War Eagle Conference basketball action here Friday night.

Matt De Vos led the Wolverines with 19 points, followed by Bret Puhrmann with 16, and Daniel Haden and Sam Weber 10 apiece.

Dylan Spieler paced the Eagles with 15 points, and Nate Rassel added 12.

Rassel led MMC on the boards with eight rebounds, while Andrew Hoefling grabbed six, and Spieler four. Spieler also led his team in steals with three.

MMC sank 15-52 field goals for a chilly 29 percent, including just 3-18 three-balls. SOS made 14-28 free throws compared to MMC's 9-23 in the foul-plagued game that saw 39 fouls whistled.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter thanks to torrid shooting that saw the winners mesh 25-45 shots for a sizzling 56 percent.

The 7-2 MMC boys host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday night in further WEC action, while the South O'Brien boys (5-5) play at West Sioux Hawarden Friday night.
