On Monday, December 3, 2012, at approximately 4:12 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake High School in reference to a written bomb threat which was located at the school.
Upon arrival, police were directed to a men's restroom in the school where a message had been written on a wall stating, "I'm going to bomb Casey's."
On that day, police searched all of the local Casey's Stores and alerted area agencies of the written threat. Police and school officials reviewed security camera data and subsequently a series of interviews were conducted over the next several days. During the investigation, police secured handwriting samples also.
Police subsequently identified a suspect in the investigation, and upon receiving information of a handwriting match from a forensic handwriting expert, police made an arrest on January 3, 2013.
On Thursday, January 3, 2013, police arrested Gora Akwai 14, Storm Lake, and charged him with Terroristic Threats, a class D felony. Akwai was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.
The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
