Involves Cherokee and Aurelia Community School Districts

Notice is hereby given to the qualified electors of the Cherokee and Aurelia Community School Districts in Cherokee and Buena Vista Counties, Iowa, that a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Poll Locations are at the Cherokee Community Center at 530 W. Bluff St., Cherokee, and the Aurelia Community Center at 235 Main St., Aurelia.

The Special Election will be held to answer if the following public measure shall be adopted: "Shall the Board of Directors of Western Iowa Tech Community College in the Counties of Buena Vista, Carroll, Cherokee, Crawford, Harrison, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, Sac, Shelby, Sioux and Woodbury, State of Iowa, cause to be levied a tax not to exceed six (6) cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for a period of ten consecutive fiscal years beginning with the tax levy to be made for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, for either of the following purposes: program sharing between community colleges or for the purchase of instructional equipment; or for such other purposes as authorized by law, as provided in Chapter 260C, Section 28 of the Code of Iowa?."

Absentee Ballots are now available: Absentee Ballots for the upcoming Special Election are available in the Cherokee County Auditor's Office located in the Cherokee County Courthouse at 520 W Main St., Cherokee, IA. You may vote absentee at the Auditor's Office until 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2013. To Receive an Absentee Ballot by Mail: If you will be unable to vote on the scheduled Election Day, then you may stop in or call the Auditor's Office at 225-6704 to receive an Absentee Request Form.

Send your Completed Absentee Ballot Request Form to: The Cherokee County Auditor, 520 W Main St, Drawer H, Cherokee, IA 51012. Deadline for receipt of request by the Auditor is Friday, February 1, 2013, at 5:00 p.m.

Absentee Ballot Return Deadline: Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Monday, February 4, 2013, or you may hand deliver your voted ballot to the Auditor's office by 8:00 p.m. the day of the election.

Any voter who is physically unable to enter the polling place has the right to vote in the voter's vehicle.
