MMC girls lose to Westerners

MARCUS - The Akron-Westfield girls jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 45-26 War Eagle Conference victory over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here Tuesday night.

Bethany Eastman paced the Westerners with 13 points, while Dana Hedlund added nine, and Haley Coyle eight. Alex Drecman led the host Eagles with eight points, and Sarah Bird chipped in six.

MMC sank just 12-59 field goals for a frigid 20 percent, and netted 1-8 free throws for a cold-shooting night all the way around.

A-W made 16-43 shots for 37 percent, and converted 12-17 free throw attempts.

Dreckman also led MMC on the boards with eight rebounds, while Bird and Heather Hoefling each snagged four. Kayla Tindall paced the Westerners in rebounds with 11.

Alissa McDermott led the Eagles in assists with four, and Sarah Dreckman led the team in steals with three.

The 1-9 MMC girls host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday night.
