CORRECTIONVILLE - The River Valley girls returned from their Christmas break last Thursday and went right to the court for a pair of Western Valley Conference contests.

On Thursday, they hosted the Panthers of Kingsley-Pierson, and the Wolverines fell to the Panthers by a 45-22 score.

Alison Brown led RV with seven points and Olivia Goettsch paced the team on the boards with nine rebounds. Marina Keck led K-P with 18 points.

"We kept it close with a good Kingsley team for three quarters," said RV coach Matt Jenness, " but didn't finish the game very well. We are dealing with a few injuries, but we played pretty well coming out of Holiday Break. Our defensive intensity was good, but we didn't play a full four quarters like we need to.'

On Friday the Wolverines traveled to Mapleton to take on Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, and fell to the Rams by a 45-16 score.

'We did not play up to our capabilities tonight," said Coach Jenness. "We did not focus on defense or offense. Morgan shot the ball very well, but we never got a hand up. We need to continue to focus on both ends of the court and play hard for 32 minutes."

Olivia Goettsch, Abbie Miller and Carley Burke each scored four points to lead RV scoring, while Kayla Mogan accounted for 27 points to lead MV/AO and Emilee Funderman added 11 points.

The leading rebounders for RV (0-12) were Carley Burke with six and Olivia Goettsch, who had five.
