Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) will provide an opportunity Jan. 29 for residents of Cherokee County to cast absentee ballots for the Feb. 5 special election.
At this special election, WITCC will seek renewal of its current instructional equipment levy. This levy is not a new tax. It generates funds which are restricted to providing instructional equipment for the college. This equipment allows WITCC to keep its educational and training programs state-of the-art for another 10 years.
The levy is 1/6 of a penny for every dollar paid in property taxes. This is equal to approximately $1.50 annually for a home valued at $50,000.
Voting will take place at the Cherokee WITCC Campus on Tuesday, Jan. 29 from noon to 8 p.m. Voting will be held in the lobby and is open to the public.
For additional information, contact Darla Struck, Director of the Cherokee WITCC Campus at 225-0238, or County Auditor/Commisioner of Elections Kris Glienke at 225-6704 at the courthouse.
