SPIRIT LAKE - The ranked Spirit Lake girls outscored Cherokee in every quarter on the way to a resounding 66-36 Lakes Conference basketball victory here Tuesday night.
Megan Hummek tallied 20 hard-earned points to pace the Cherokee offense, but it was too few and too far between to make a difference in the final 20-point setback. Kaely Hummel added 11 points for the Washington High lasses, and Megan Carlson chipped in eight, and Ariana Smith five.
Cherokee sank just 17-50 field goals for 34 percent and finished just 2-14 on three-pointers. The vistors were 10-16 from the free throw line.
Megan Hummel registered a sweet double-double performance, also pulling down 14 game-high rebounds for the WHS club. Kaely Hummel led Cherokee in steals with four, while she and Carlson led in assists with two each. Alexia Gerdes managed two blocked shots.
The Indians (11-5) forged a 31-18 halftime lead and kept adding to it in the second half.
