ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia boys held an 18-14 lead after one quarter of their game against Manson Northwest Webster here on Friday, but the Cougars held a one point lead at the half and extended it in the second half, posting a 63-53 Twin Lakes Conference win over the Warriors.
Jayden Van Berkum- led the Warriors in scoring with a 20 point effort, while Mitchel McDonald had a double-double night with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ross Friedrich dished out six assists for the Warriors.
A-A Coach Randy Bissen stated, "Our post players in the first half did a really nice job, especially Jayden. We did a nice job of attacking their press, and got some easy ones in transition. We went into halftime being down one when we should have been up 5 or 6. We had a couple of lapses on the defensive end and gave up some offensive rebounds for easy baskets that gave them some momentum going into the 2nd half.
"In the 3rd quarter, Manson hit some key shots and we failed to convert offensively. Overall, we felt really good about the team's effort. We are definitely making progress, and hope to be playing our best basketball come district time."
The Warriors, now 7-9, travel to Newell-Fonda on Friday for another Twin Lakes Conference contest.
