Adjunct series to offer more choices for customers and raise funds

Cherokee Community Theater kicks off a new series of bonus plays in adjunct to the regular season on Friday, February 8th. The Pulitzer Prize for Drama recipient for 2005, "Doubt, A Parable" by John Patrick Shanley is the first of five Pulitzer Prize winners which Director and CCT Board Vice President, Andrew Linn, will bring to the Cherokee stage as an addition to the regular three-show season. "The writing in these plays is exceptional," says Linn "I was brought up to appreciate and value excellent writing by my father and I enjoy sharing that with others. 'Doubt' is a provocative drama that expresses a lesson about moral judgment in parable form. The script wasn't just written, it was carefully crafted. I enjoy that in a script."

Linn, who has committed to financially producing the shows for CCT hopes that the extra income will help fund maintenance projects for the theater, "We have several projects in the stage and backstage area that need to be addressed," commented Linn "The stage floor is in need of immediate help and the theater curtains and drapes will need to be replaced in the foreseeable future as well. We also have equipment needs to better address safety for our volunteers. These are large scale projects." Linn hopes that by covering the cost of producing the series, the extra proceeds will contribute to fund-raising efforts for the needed maintenance.

"It's like killing two birds with one stone," says Linn "I can honor great American writing and direct shows that may not always be typically thought of for Community Theater while raising a little money for needed work."

CCT season ticket holders may use their three punches any way they choose over the four shows planned for the current season, including the new series. "Doubt" should not be confused for CCT's Spring play, which opens in March. For more information or questions about the new series, contact Andrew Linn at 712-490-2417 or visit the CCT website at cherokeect.org.

When asked what is on the agenda for the next play in the series, Linn smiles, "A classic comedy, but you'll have to stay tuned until next season."
