Marcus native Smith joins CPD
Tim Smith is the newest officer with the Cherokee Police Department, having joined the force on March 29, 2013.
Officer Smith, 29, is a Marcus native, graduating from Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 2002. He has served in the Air National Guard for eight years, and has always wanted to be a police officer.
Most of the work he has done since High School has been involved with Security, including working as a Correctional Officer at the South Dakota State Penitentiary for two years. While living in Sioux Falls, Officer Smith also began a Police Science course at Southeast Technical Community College, and he is in the process of finishing that course through the Community College of the Air Force.
Smith is married to the former Sarah Smith of Cleghorn, and the couple have two young children, daughter Rylee, 3, and son Calvin, 10 months. The family moved back to this area several months ago, and Sarah is employed as an Office Assistant in Cherokee with Dr. Veit.
