MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls defeated Newell-Fonda 434-445 to win a Class 1A Regional Golf Meet here Monday.
Newell-Fonda's Jada Hess was medalist with a 93, followed by runner-up medalists Kayla Theisen of MMC and River Valley's Jenna Knaack, each with a 99.
Danielle Groepper of Kingsley-Pierson was fourth with a 107, and Sarah McDermott was fifth with a 110.
Other MMC scores were Alisa McDermott 111, and Alison Meehan 114.
"This was one of the better days we have had as far as weather this season," said MMC coach beth Ebert. "It did get a bit windy later in the afternoon.
"The top two teams advance to the second round of regionals and the top five medalists advance. We will play next Monday (May 20) at Kingsley. Other qualifiers who will play that day are Algona Garrigan, Ruthven Ayshire-Greattinger Terril, LeMars Gehlen, and West Sioux.
"The girls are excited to advance and have an opportunity to try to qualify for the State Golf Meet.
