Learn about exports, imports, and how the new Northwest Iowa FTZ may benefit your business

Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) Business and Developer Seminars will be hosted by Northwest Iowa Development (NWID) and Woodbury County Economic Development on Wednesday, May 21. Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon will host the seminar from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Auditorium in Building C. Also on May 21, Woodbury County Economic Development and its Sioux City economic development partners will be hosting the program from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sioux City Convention Center.

"These seminars are a great opportunity for business in northwest Iowa to learn about exporting and the opportunities that the foreign trade zone offers to importing businesses in our region," said Northwest Iowa Development chairman Steve Simons of Lyon County. "The foreign trade zone may benefit certain businesses and it can invite additional business to come to the region because they have easy access to that foreign trade zone program."

The seminars will kick off with a presentation by Kathy Hill, head of the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) International Trade Office that will focus on export trends, tools and techniques. Bill Hooton of International Trade and Transportation Strategies -- Iowa, the NWID FTZ consultant, will present the specific benefits available to firms located within the northwest Iowa FTZ.

Simons urges companies that import or export to consider attending one of these information-packed presentations on export and import tools, along with the details on the newly granted FTZ in NWID's six-county region.

The NWID zone is only the fourth foreign-trade zone established in Iowa. The designation is expected to help attract investment and boost trade in the region. Taking advantage of the potential benefits of FTZ status will begin with you- the businesses already operating in the six-county region and Woodbury County.

If you would like to attend one of the May 21 Foreign Trade Zone Business Seminars, please contact 866-384-2665 to RSVP.
