Thursday, May 29, 2014

The Cherokee Regional Medical Center's Wellness Center is pleased to offer an eight day educational camp this summer entitled CRMC Fit Kids!

The program is for area children who will be entering grades 2nd - 4th in the fall, and it will be held June 2 through June 5 and June 9 through June 12. Classes will be held each of those days, from noon to 2 p.m., at the CRMC Wellness Center.

CRMC Fit Kids! will cover a variety of topics throughout the camp including My Plate Nutrition, Healthy Snacking, and many new games to get the participants moving. Each day there will be a hands-on healthy eating segment and an exercise component.

Wellness Center Manager, Matt Hoskinson, will serve as the primary instructor for the program. Additional CRMC Wellness Center staff members will also assist with various aspects of the camp.

"CRMC Fit Kids! is targeted for kids entering the 2nd - 4th grades because this is an important time within their development when they are still quite impressionable," says Hoskinson. "At CRMC we feel that it is important to take a proactive approach to one's health and continually educate area youth in subjects that can impact their overall growth and development. I encourage all area kids in this age group to register. It will be fun and very informative."

"In this day and age, childhood obesity is getting way out of control," added Hoskinson. "By teaching the kids the importance of eating healthier while also promoting fun ways to be active and exercise, we hope to make a difference in the lives of all of the kids who participate."

The cost for this program is $25. Space is limited and pre-registration is required . For more information or to register for CRMC Fit Kids!, please call the CRMC Wellness Center at (712) 225-6858 today!
