Ridge View Ensemble Speech group honored
SIOUX CITY - The 2014 Western Valley Conference Speech Festival was held recently, sponsored by Woodbury Central High School and hosted by Morningside College.
Attending this year's Festival was the Ridge View High School Ensemble Acting group, Emily Forristal, Bailey Winterhof, Hope Clark and Megan Wiese, with their piece, (PG).
(PG) is a 10-minute play with an absurd look at appropriate movie theater behavior. The focus on this year's festival was development of the Group Speech category; Ensemble Acting. Ensemble Acting is an event where between 2 and 6 students prepare a memorized piece, and perform it without costumes or props.
At the Festival, the WVC schools' Ensemble groups were divided into three divisions, assigned to three buildings, each of their Ensemble groups performing in their own room. Each Ensemble Acting group performed their piece for three adjudicators. The adjudicators were allowed 45 minutes per group to watch the performance and give a critique and suggestions.
At each site, an Ensemble group was chosen to continue to the Championship level. The three Ensembles chosen for this Honor were the Woodbury Central Team 1 and Team 2, and Ridge View. After lunch, the three finalist groups performed their Ensemble pieces for all the festival participants in the Theater. The Ridge View Ensemble Group was awarded "Outstanding" medals.
Ridge View's speech coach is Mary Oakley-McAreavy.
