Celebrity Scrooge Contest returns
The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce announces the return of the Celebrity Scrooge Contest.
This year's Celebrity Scrooge will kick off the Lighted Christmas Parade, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4.
Four Chamber members have been nominated as Scrooge contenders, but the public will have the final say as to which of these community members will have the honor of being Grand Marshal during the Lighted Christmas Parade.
Scrooge nominees include: John Comstock of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, Tim Haupert of Hy-Vee, Tom Letsche of Letsche's Bike Shop and Radio Shack, and Sandy Siegel of Gustafson Realty.
These four nominees are on a mission to raise money for the food pantries in Cherokee, including the Mid-Sioux Opportunity Center and Christian Action Program.
"That is where the public gets involved", shared Julie Hering-Kent, Executive Director of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce. "Each contestant will have collection cans set up at their business and around town. People are invited to cast their vote for Scrooge by dropping their loose change or monetary donation in the can for their favorite Scrooge."
The contestant who raises the most money will dress the part of Scrooge in the Lighted Christmas Parade on Dec. 4. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM through downtown Cherokee.
Previous Celebrity Scrooge winners have included Chuck Wulfson of Central Bank in 2013 and Mike Hunter of Cherokee State Bank in 2012. The contest has raised almost $1,700 since its inception to benefit the two local food pantries.
The public can show their support for their favorite Scrooge by donating to them now through Wednesday, Dec. 3.
