Make the best of Iowa winter

Friday, December 5, 2014

If we could end the frigid temperatures and excessive snow by an editorial critical of such immoderate weather, we would certainly write such an editorial.

However, complaining will do no good, so the best thing we can do is keep active during the winter months.

Cross country skiing, snowboarding, sledding and other youth activities in the snow are much healthier than video games or television. Parents should bundle up their young children and take them outside for activities. They should encourage their older children to go out with friends as well as participating in family outings.

Even if going out means just going from outside to some other place indoors, such as the library or the Wellness Center, that is certainly better than staying at home suffering from cabin fever. And by the way, outdoor grills still work in the winter.

We live in Iowa, and we shouldn't let Iowa weather get us down or slow us down.
