A-A girls lose two
LAURENS - Pocahontas Area, the #1 ranked team in the state in Class 3A, showed why when they took on a pretty good Alta-Aurelia team here last Friday.
Led by 5-3 sophomore Elle Ruffridge, who sank an amazing 12 three-point baskets and netted 41 points in all, the Indians strolled to a 76-47 Twin Lakes Conference win over the Warriors, who came into the game with a 4-1 record. Faith Meyer, another soph, added 14 points for the Indians, who made 17 3-pointers as a team in 39 attempts. Junior Autumn Radig pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Pocahontas Area in that category.
The Indians had two big quarters, outscoring A-A 28-7 in the opening stanza and 26-9 in the 3rd quarter.
Freshman Lily Peterson scored 10 to top Alta-Aurelia scoring, while juniors Izzy Hinkeldey and Micah Barnes each added eight points.
Woodbury Central scored a 60-52 win over the Warrior girls the next night in non-conference girls basketball action in Alta.
Micah Barnes scored 16 points to lead the Warriors' attack and Erin Lockin chipped in with 14, as the Warriors fell to 4-3 overall.
The Wildcats led all the way, as they improved to 3-4. Halle Still led Woodbury Central with 23 points.
