Spartans smack River Valley boys

ONAWA - A 24-10 scoring spurt in the second quarter guided West Monona to a 76-40 Western Valley Conference boys basketball victory here last week.

Despite his team's loss, Wyatt Fitch was a force to be reckoned with for River Valley,scoring 26 points, while Tucker Zahnley added nine.

The visiting Wolverines (2-5) made 16-52 field goals for 31 percent and 4-9 free throws in the game, to go along with a 4-16 shooting effort from the three-point line.

Zahnley also led River Valley in rebounds with 10, Fitch pocketed eight, and Kaleb O'Connell give. Fitch also led in assists with three.

Austin Reitz and Wade Martian paced the Spartans with 20 points apiece, while Brandon Blumer tallied 14, and Tyler Westendorf 10 for the balanced West Monona squad. Blumer grabbed 10 rebounds, and Martian and Westendorf eight each. Reitz registered a whopping nine assists for the 5-2 winners.

WM sank 30-69 field goals for a warm 43 percent, and converted 8-15 free throws.
