Keep supporting wind energy
The high school and middle school students who participated in the KidWind Wind Festival at the Cherokee Campus of Western Iowa Tech on March 5 were enthusiastic about the future of wind-based energy technology.
We should encourage that kind of enthusiasm.
Skeptics of wind energy insist that wind energy is not viable economically without government subsidies. We have come a long way in improving the technology of wind turbines and the infrastructure for delivering wind - generated electricity, and we can expect more advances in the future.
The potential advantages environmentally, economically and geo-politically are too enormous to stall forward progress.
If continued subsidies in the form of tax incentives are still necessary for wind energy progress, then that is an investment we should be willing to make.
