Major local news events

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

There have been some recent major local announcements. For those who haven't been paying close attention, we'll recap those announcements.

The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, Cherokee and Alta-Aurelia school boards have announced a merger of the districts, which will be known as the MMCCAA district. In order to resolve a struggle over the location of the high school and administrative offices, these buildings will be located out of the district, in Correctionville.

It is hoped that in the near future, the district will incorporate the River Valley and Ridge View districts and be known as the MMCCAARVRV district.

The plan for a 5 million chicken egg operation in Cherokee County has been modified. The operation will now be a 50 million canary egg operation. Canary eggs are highly nutritious, rich in both molybdenum and Vitamin Q, but it takes about 30 of the tiny eggs to make a standard-size omelette.

Glitzy Casino Company out of Las Vegas has announced plans to build a large hotel-entertainment complex on the shores of Lake Elmo in southern Cherokee County.

Ground-breaking for the $100 million complex is expected later this week.

Happy first day of April!
