WHS Speech has a Banner Season
The Washington High School Speech team, coached by James and Jaylene De Vos and Heather DeBey had a record year for 2014-15.
There were 93 students involved in Large Group Speech, and 26 students were involved in Individual Speech. Of these groups and individuals, there were many successful performances.
In Large Group Speech 19 Varsity groups went to District competition and 14 Varsity groups performed at State Competition. There were seven Freshmen Large groups at District competition.
The freshmen also had three groups perform at State competition. Four of the Varsity large groups moved on to the All-State Festival in Ames, Iowa.These Varsity groups included TV News, Group Improvisation, Readers Theatre, and Solo Mime.
The individual season was also extremely successful as 26 students were involved in Individual Speech. There were 28 Varsity entries that went to District contest and 22 moved on to State competition. There were seven Freshmen entries that went to District contest and five moved on to State contest.
At State competition, 21 students received I ratings. Nine students and ten entries moved on to the Individual All-State Festival in Cedar Falls.
The coaches thank the students and their parents for all their hard work and impressive dedication.
Students spent countless hours working to perfect their performances and talents, and this work has paid off with a fun and successful year.
