AA should consider commitment

Friday, May 1, 2015

The Aurelia and Alta School Districts have been whole-grade sharing middle school and high school since the 2011-12 school year. Each district operates its own elementary school.

From all indications, the agreement seems to be working. The students regard themselves as Alta-Aurelia Warriors, but the fact that there seem to be no plans for future consolidation indicates that there is some residual resistance to making the arrangement binding and permanent.

The present situation is a bit cumbersome, having two school boards serving what is, in most respects, one school system.

Long term plans for the school system deserve some discussion.
