Jolaine M. Tjarks
Jolaine M. Tjarks, of Cherokee, 66, passed away Thursday morning, August 6, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 11th, at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Rev. Cris Decious officiating, and burial will be at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Visitation at the Boothby Funeral Home will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com
Jolaine was born in Eldora, Iowa on October 22, 1948, to John and Mary Ann (Callahan) Rieks. She grew up on a farm near Buckeye, Iowa, and also lived in Alden and Iowa Falls. She attended school in those towns and graduated in 1967 from Iowa Falls High School. She then attended La James school of cosmetology in Mason City and became a cosmetologist following graduation.
Jolaine was married to Greg Tjarks on May 31,1968 in Storm Lake, Iowa, and the couple were married for 47 years - living initially in Storm Lake, Iowa for two years prior to moving to Cherokee, where they lived for 45 years. Jolaine was a special education classroom associate, and also worked as a Walmart sales associate. She was also a devoted wife and mother, and she was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Jolaine's hobbies included crafting, refinishing furniture and landscaping around her home, as well as reading, home decorating and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Ann (Callahan) Rieks, and she is survived by her husband, Greg; a son, Brian Tjarks of Cherokee; a grandson, Tanner Tjarks of Cherokee; a brother, Greg Pena of Cherokee; two sisters, Lee Ann (Travis) Burnett of Sioux City and Susie (Richard) Nossett of Baldwin Park, California; and several nephews and nieces.
