IOC needs to change
The choice of Rio de Janeiro as the site of the 2016 Olympics, is the latest questionable decision by the International Olympic Committee.
Recently 13 members of the U.S. team, on a "trial run" for the games, came down with stomach illnesses due to water contamination in Brazil. This should come as no surprise, since sewage in Brazil usually just empties into waterways untreated.
City officials in Rio de Janeiro insist that the polluted waterways will be cleaned up in time for the Olympics, but one year out, there is no guarantee that promise will be kept.
The site selection process by IOC needs to be more transparent and more intelligent.
