South O'Brien suffers 2nd loss

ALBERT CITY - South O'Brien's footballers traveled to Albert City Friday night to play the Sioux Central Rebels in a Class 1A district game, and the Wolverines wound up losing 34-13.

With 3:58 to go in the first quarter, Sam Nelson connected with Drew Faust on a 8 -yard pass, and Cody Johanson kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 in South O'Brien's favor,

The ensuing kickoff for the Wolverines, however, resulted in an 85 yard kick return by Brady Rusk of the home team Rebels.

After a fumble on the Wolverines' next offensive series, the Rebels were able to get great field position and they scored on a 19-yard run by Mac Prior to make the score 14-7 after the 2 -point conversion.

In the second quarter, the Rebels put together a drive and scored with 8:30 to go on another Prior TD, as SOS was having trouble containing their off tackle play at the point. The 2- -point conversion was converted by Sioux Central to increase their lead to 22-7.

South O'Brien scored next, on a 1-yard run by Sam Nelson, but the 2- point conversion attempt failed, making the score 22-13.

The ensuing kickoff again proved to be a disaster for the Wolverines as the Rebels' Caleb Anderson returned it 80 yards and a touchdown. The score then stood at 28-13, Sioux Central, after their 2- point conversion failed.

The third quarter went fast and the Rebels put together a drive of their own in the 4th quarter, scoring on a 28- yard run by Anderson with 8:19 to go. The extra point kick failed, and the score was 34-13, where it remained until the end.

Sam Nelson had a good all- around night for South O'Brien as he was 7-18 passing for 89 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed 16 times for 65 yards. Karter Rohrbaugh also rushed 16 times, gaining 51 yards, and Drew Faust had 6 carries for 16 yards. He also had 3 catches for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Keaton Rohrbaugh was in on 21 tackles, Travis Hohbach had four solo tackles, four assists, and a sack, and Isaiah Faust had five solos and one assist.

This week is Homecoming for the Wolverines, now 3-2, against Alta-Aurelia (0-5).
