Let's end the committee

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

Hillary Clinton will testify before the U.S. Congress Select Committee on Benghazi this week. Unless she makes an unexpected revelation or is caught in a blatantly false statement, the useful role of the committee, if it ever had one, will come to an end.

The select committee was established in May of 2014 and has been the longest such committee in our history, surpassing even the Watergate committee and the Iran Contra committee.

The Democrats are weary of the committee but it is now more of an embarrassment to Republicans than to Democrats. Some Republicans have acknowledged the partisan politics behind the committee and the chairman has told fellow Republicans to shut up about such matters.

It's definitely time to shut it down.
