A larger question
After 11 hours of being asked repetitive, mostly irrelevant questions, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won an endurance contest with Republican adversaries on the U.S. House of Representative Select Committee on Benghazi.
Predictably, the committee obtained no new details on the breakdown in security that resulted in four American deaths at the consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
Even if the select committee had focused on the important question of how to prevent such disasters in the future, a larger foreign policy question remains unexplored.
What motivated the government to attempt to "liberate" Libya from Gaddafi, thus causing the nation to descend into chaos?
