Time to end special laws for Cuba
There has recently been a new exodus of Cubans who have embarked on perilous journeys by sea, seeking refuge in the United States.
They fear that time is running out for them to get special treatment under an American law that gives Cubans who reach American soil the automatic right to settle in the United States and apply for citizenship in a few years.
As relations are normalized with Cuba, this law and any other relics of the Cold War hostilities towards the Castro regime should be scrapped. This should be done as quickly as possible to end the incentive for Cubans to take risks for themselves and their families.
