We could lose a few more

We commend former presidential candidates Martin O'Malley, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Rand Paul for dropping out of the race rather than continue on in pursuit of a lost cause.

There are some Republicans who did even worse than Paul's fifth place Iowa finish who continue to clutter the political landscape for no good reason.

One negative effect of Paul's resignation is that the debates will lose what was occasionally a reasonable voice regarding foreign policy. Paul was inconsistent in his non-interventionist positions. He has been more interested in unconvincingly courting social conservatives and xenophobes than in promoting libertarian philosophy.

However, he occasionally served as the lone voice of sanity amidst calls for blanket bombing, shooting down Russian aircraft and murdering the families of terrorists.

The remaining candidates will be unchallenged when they talk like playground tough guys, except that playground tough guys only cause bruises and hurt feelings. These presidential candidates want the power to deliver death and destruction.
