Compassion needed for chronically ill
Last week, Iowa legislators heard emotional pleas from desperate patients of chronic illnesses, as well as from parents of suffering children. They were pleading for legal access to the only medicine that is effective in treating their conditions, medical marijuana in the form of cannabis oil. This is a substance that is, ironically, unavailable by subscription, unlike highly addictive opiates and highly toxic chemicals.
Patient after patient testified before a house panel and many more crowded into the packed chambers, unable to all be heard during the hour allotted to the discussion.
This topic has come up again and again and once more a proposed bill will likely be kept from a full vote in the house, thwarted by politicians acting in defiance of medical expertise and displaying a contemtible absence of humanity.
