Another non-issue

Friday, April 1, 2016

Politicians and partisan pundits from both the Democrat and Republican sides of the current political fray frequently get all worked up about an issue that has both opponents and independents asking the question, "So what?"

Such is the case of Donald Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski grabbing the arm of reporter Michelle Fields, allegedly leaving bruises.

The video of the event shows fairly minor contact between Lewandowski and Fields. The reaction by Fields and by other reporters covering the incident resulted, in part, from Trump encouraging an atmosphere at his rallies of hostility toward protestors and toward the press.

Perhaps the decision to charge Lewoandowski with battery has less to do with this being a prosecutable offense and more to do with law enforcement becoming fed up with the tense and dangerous situation created by protestors and Trump baiting each other.

This particular incident should be regarded as trivial.
