We owe them

The Taliban is gaining strength in Afghanistan, and thousands of Afghans who worked alongside the U.S. military, as well as members of their families, are at growing risk of retaliation for assisting our troops.

The Special Immigrant Visa program is designed to bring both Afghan and Iraqi nationals associated with the U.S. to safety in America.

There are two problems with the program: the average processing time for a completed Special Immigrant Visa application is 293 business days, and the 7,000 person cap for the program may be less than the total of those who need sanctuary.

The U.S. may not be able to protect all Afghan refugees, but we should at least protect those who put themselves in harm's way by working for us.
