What's up Chuck?

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley is will meet with President Barack Obama this week regarding the Supreme Court vacancy.

However, there is not expected to be any change in the united Republican stance that confirmation of a new justice must wait until after the presidential election.

The discussion between Grassley and Obama might as well be about the upcoming baseball season or their favorite brand of coffee. If the objective for Grassley is to make Republicans seem reasonable on this issue, he doesn't need to bother.

Perhaps Obama can make it clear that he will withdraw his nomination if the Republicans lose the election, eliminating the option of approving the nomination of moderate Merrick Garland during a lame duck session.

The Republicans will not like a Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders nominee. For that matter, traditional conservatives may not like a Donald Trump nominee.
