Volunteerism is alive and well in rural America. People of all ages from elementary school students to retired individuals serve communities and the country in a variety of ways and more people are potential volunteers when they are informed about a need.

Contact your local school district, library, nursing home, church, hospital or service club about volunteering opportunities.

One specific need coming up over the Memorial Day weekend is the need for putting up flags at the Oak Hill Cemetery on Friday, May 27, at 1 p.m. and taking flags down on Monday at 3 p.m. Contact the VFW in Cherokee if you want to help.
