Central Bank announces Scholarship extension

Chuck Wulfsen, President of Central Bank in Cherokee, is pleased to announce that the Scholarship Fund of the late John Dewar has extended its scholarship award to Ariana Smith for the 2016-2017 school year. Ariana will receive $275, based on the current annual income of the trust, which is adminstered by Central Bank. This amount brings the total scholarship funds paid to $74,010.00.

The Dewar Scholarship is awarded to Cherokee Washington High School graduates, and provides money for tuition over a four year period, providing the recipient is a full-time student at an accredited college, vocational school or other post-high school institution, and has maintained a grade point average of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

The parameters of the Dr. John W. Dewar Scholarship Fund, established in 1992, were outlined in the will of the late Lois M. Dewar. The award is based on academic achievement and financial aid.

Ariana Smith, the daughter of Alecia Dougherty and Terrell Brown, is attending the University of Iowa.
