Helen C. Foell of Storm Lake, age 95, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Memorial services will be held Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen was born on October 22, 1921 on a farm near Larrabee, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Edna (Lingle) Matthew., and she attended Larrabee High School, graduating in 1939.
After graduation, Helen attended business school in Sioux City. She then worked in Cherokee for a short time before moving to Storm Lake, where she worked for Buena Vista Abstract and Fitzgerald Insurance Company.
On September 30, 1951, Helen was married to Richard A. Foell, son of Ruby and Vernon Foell of Storm Lake, at the United Methodist Church, where they were long - time members. The couple made their home on the family farm south of Storm Lake where they farmed and raised their two children, James and Julie.
Helen was a mother and homemaker, and she was involved in many church and community activities, and enjoyed various clubs and card groups through the years. Dick and Helen enjoyed traveling, especially their trip to Australia and New Zealand. Helen was known for her baking skills, especially her cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies.
In 1985, Dick and Helen moved from the farm to Storm Lake, where they resided until Dick’s death in 1999. Helen remained in their home where she enjoyed entertaining her card groups and spoiling her grandchildren until a stroke in 2008 forced her to reside at Methodist Manor.
Helen is survived by her son, Jim Foell and wife Terry of Storm Lake; son-in-law Robin Holt of New Hope, Minnesota; grandchildren Amy Foell of Orono, Minnesota, Nick Foell and wife Kim of Storm Lake, Mindy Wiltse and husband Bret of Johnston, Iowa, Jeff Foell and wife Amanda of Storm Lake and Jon Foell and fiancé Kirsten Thomson of Storm Lake; great grandchildren Michael and Peter Wojcechowski, Paul and Ethan Foell, Alexandra, Kole and Colin Wiltse, and Owen and Benson Foell; sister-in-law Doris Rausch; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; her daughter, Julie Holt; great granddaughters Madison and Hailey Foell; her brother, Dean Matthew and wife, Josephine; brothers-in-law, George Foell and wife, Rosemary and Rodney Rausch.
