Young Braves' tennis season ends at District Meet
LE MARS -- The young Cherokee boys' tennis team competed in the Class 1A District Tournament here last Thursday, and though the team won't be playing any more matches this season, Braves' Coach Dave Zelle was "very satisfied with our level of play and effort. Everyone competed to the end and gave a solid effort."
Zelle stated that #1 single player Cale Pingel "had a fantastic first round match, winning 6-1, 6-1, and he pushed the eventual 3rd place finisher extremely hard in his second round match. The level of play was far more competitive than the final score would indicate."
Zelle was also pleased with the doubles team of Layne Reinhart and Tyler Richardson, who "pushed the 3rd place doubles team to 4-6 in their first set before Spencer's relentless attack at the net proved too much to handle."
Zelle comments that the entire Braves'squad will return next year and he says. "The choice is theirs whether or not to commit to lots of serious time on the courts this summer," adding "the next season could be really bright if that effort is made."
