A shameful plan

While the nation’s attention is focused on the probe into Russia’s influence on our elections, senate Republicans are working out details of a health care bill, details they are not sharing with the public or even their Democratic colleagues.

After attempting to repeal Obamacare and replace it with an extremely unpopular alternative, the Republicans are now attempting to sneak a bill through without debate, relying on their narrow majority in the senate to send the proposal to the Congressional Budget Office as swiftly as possible, bypassing public scrutiny.

Once the CBO evaluates the bill, Republicans will call the measure to a vote in hopes of passing it before Congress goes to recess for the Fourth of July.

Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) invoked the Senate’s Rule 14 for the bill, which allows Republicans to bypass the relevant committees and quickly force the measure to a floor vote.

Let’s hope that Iowa’s two Republican senators refuse to participate in this cynical and unethical maneuver.
