Ridge View hits North Union
HOLSTEIN - Ridge View had no problem with North Union in their district football opener here Friday, downing the Warriors 45-0.
It was a 14-0 game at half time. The Raptors played well in the first half but struggled a little offensively on our last 2-3 possessions of the half.
Ridge View made some adjustments and Raptors’ Coach Dale Tokheim commented, “The boys went out and executed what we talked about. I think we have a smart group of kids and they are very coachable. I thought all of our skill players offensively had a very good game, but our offensive line, including the TE's, did an outstanding job early and the whole 2nd half with their run blocking.”
Senior Jake Mitchell, with 140 yards on 15 carries, and junior Jake Kliegl, who gained 146 yards on 14 attempts, led the high-powered Raptors’ rushing attack, Kilegl scored on an 81 yard run and Mitchell scored twice, including a 45 yard td scamper.
On defense, Kliegl and Mitchell were each in on eight tackles, Jaxon Franken had an interception, and Lance Else recovered a fumble.
Coach Tokheim commented, “We do have some things to work on still. Our pass protection wasn't the greatest. (Quarterback) Jake Tokheim had a nice game, but he needs to work on seeing the shorter routes and not go for the big play every time. That would be easier if he wasn't running from defenders so much when he is passing. I am very proud of the boys, and have been impressed with their effort and attitude."
Ridge View (2-1) travels to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday.
