Fall Family Festival and photo contest
The annual Fall Family Festival takes place this Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Cherokee Depot.
Events begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.
Free coffee will be served at the bake sale inside the depot.
Lunch for $3 includes a tavern or hot dog, chips and lemonade (or a coney dog for $3.50).
The Little Sioux Valley Model Railroad trains will be rolling.
A farmer’s market will feature Wayne Nafe’s fresh produce.
Children’s activities will include Story Time and puppets and books presented by Charlene the librarian from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rawhide the Rodeo Clown and Friends will be making balloon animals from noon to 2 p.m.
Crafts and vendors will be under the canopy. Art by Barb McGee, entries in the photo contest and face painting by Beth Anderson will be inside.
The barrel train will be giving rides and the caboose and bunk car will be open for touring.
Music throughout the festival will be provided by guitarist Brooks Begay.
Entrants in the photo contest must be dropped off by 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. Those entering photos are asked to call ahead at 712-229-9502.
There are two categories - “Fall” and “Railroads”. There will be two age divisions - Youth (13 and under) and Adult (14 and older).
Entry guidelines: Must be original work of entrant; may enter up to two photos; may have been taken any time; no bends or folds; size 5X7, 8X10 or 8X12; color or black and white; label on back with name, address and phone number of photographer; no watermarks, signatures, etc. allowed on face of the photo; unframed and unmatted; glossy or matte photo paper; a small border is acceptable; photos can be rejected for any reason.
