Raptors lose to Garrigan in OT
ALGONA - Ridge View’s football game with Bishop Garrigan Friday was postponed until Saturday at 6 p.m. It had rained in Algona until about 2 p.m. Saturday, and Ridge View Coach Dale Tokheim said “the field was soaked and you could feel the water when you walked on the grass. it became a muddy mess, but the sun was shining and wind died down.”
Ridge View trailed 20-6 with 6:45 left. The Raptors ran a few plays from a Wing -T set but went to a shotgun double slot for most of the remaining of the game and the teams were tied at 20. Garrigan scored in the OT to take a 26-20 win over the Raptors.
Coach Tokheim commented, “I felt the difference in the game was they got one or two more big plays than we did. Plus, field position in the 2nd half hurt us, which was partly due to our mistakes and to some untimely penalties.”
Ridge View is now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the district, and Coach Tokheim commenetd, “ We will have to win out and win big to have any shot at getting one of the two wildcard spots (in the playoffs).”
Ridge View hosts MMCRU this Friday and plays at South O’Brien on the 20th, to close out the regular season.
