MMCRU gals win one of three
The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls basketball team played three games in four days as they get ready for the Christmas break. Though the Royals lost the first two contests - against Gehlen Catholic Friday and Saturday at Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire - the Royals head into the break on the heels of a Monday win over Harris-Lake Park.
Against Gehlen, the Royals outscored the oopnent 18-3 in the 4th quarter, but they were too far behind by that time to get any closer than the final score of 49-35. Haley Schwarz scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the MMCRU girls.
At GTRA on Saturday, the Royals again started slowly, being blanked 11-0 in the first quarter, and finished the game on the short end of a low-scoring 41-20 game.
Madison Treinen led MMCRU with nine points and nine rebounds.
Playing at home Monday, MMCRU pulled off a 48-46 win over HarrisóLake Park. Gretchen Ruba led the Royals in scoring with 19 points, followed by Haley Schwarz (nine), Aliyah Jackson (seven), Megan Loutsch (six) and Madison Treinen (five).
MMCRU has a 4-5 record.
