United law enforcement invaluable

Wednesday, January 3, 2018

We heartily applaud our County Sheriffs and City Police Departments for their decision to join forces with area law enforcement agencies to form a cohesive emergency response team.

Five Northwest Iowa Law Enforcement agencies in Cherokee, Plymouth and Sioux Counties announced the formation of the Tri-County Combined Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Partner entities include the Sheriff’s Departments for Sioux, Plymouth and Cherokee Counties, and the Police Departments for the Cities of Le Mars and Cherokee.

The purpose of the Tri-County CERT is to have a combined special response team, with emphasis for hazardous law enforcement situations, such as high-risk warrant service, terrorism, and barricaded subjects.

All of us take our dedicated law enforcement officers for granted and do not fully appreciate what they are and represent - our first and often only line of defense against the bad guys and any other danger that might confront us. From severe weather, to life-threatening accidents and situations, to a cat up a tree, our officers are ready and willing to face the danger and take charge.

Knowing our local officers are united for the greater cause of eliminating crime while creating a safer environment for everyone is heart-warming and reassuring, and must never be taken for granted.

God bless our “cops,” the heroes among us.
