WHS tennis girls fall to Le Mars

Cherokee’s Isabel Gebers stays focused on a backhand return during girls tennis action against Le Mars Tuesday.

A talented Le Mars team pasted the youthful Cherokee girls 9-0 in Lakes Conference tennis action here Tuesday to open the season after inclement weather impacted early season practices and meets.

In varsity singles for Cherokee, Courtney Aden lost 10-2 to Elizabeth Ihrke at #1, Isabel Gebers lost 10-3 to Maddy Mahan at #2, Megan Kellen fell 10-2 to Madison Dreckman at #3, Natalie Peterson fell 10-1 to Joan Meis at #4, Alisanne Struck fell 10-2 to Sarah Benton at #5, and Sydney Woltman lost 10-4 to Abby Van Otterloo at #6.

In doubles, Aden and Gebers lost 10-5 to Mahan and Dreckman at #1, Peterson and Struck lost 10-0 to Ihrke and Caroline Meis at #2, and Woltman and Meredith Lovell fell 10-0 to J. Meis and Benton at #3.

In JV singles for Cherokee, Kalina Schubert lost 6-4 at #1, Lovell lost 8-2 at #2, Rylie Bainbridge lost 8-0 at #3, Merrick Harrison won 9-7 at #4, Olivia Kruse won 8-1 at #5, and Brooklyn Schlenger lost 8-0 at #6.

In JV doubles, Addison Jensen and Taylor Vander Broek lost 8-1 at #1, Madelyn Herrera and Ellie Kooiker lost 8-2 at #2, and Melissa Kelly and Paola Montes lost 8-0 at #3.
