Cherokee boys’ tennis team is 3-6 vs. Spirit Lake
CHEROKEE -On a cool, partly sunny day here Thursday, the Cherokee boys’ varsity tennis team hosted Spirit Lake, and the Braves won two of six singles mtaches and one of three doubles matches. Cherokee’s number one singles player sophomore Cole Pingel, lost to the Indians’ Kyler Olsen,5 -10; #2 Layne Reinhart beat Spirit Lake’s Karson Rodriguez, 10-4; #3 Tyler Richardson topped SL’s Jordan Koenick, 10-5; at #4, Spirit Lake’s Jackson Arends beat the Braves’ Thad Booth, 7-10, the sam score as the #6 match, where SL’s Nate Cornwall topped the Bravs’ Carson Mongan; at #5, Cherokee’s brendon Sullivan fell to the Indians’ Ben Newman by a 1-10 score.
In doubles, Cherokee got a 10-5 win from Reinhart and Sullivan, while Pingel and Richardson fell, 1-10 and Booth and Mongan dropped a 2-10 match.
In junior varsity play, Cherokee’s Jacob Kohn, Cael Lundy, Tyler Croonquist and Sivert Hansen each scored singles wins over their oppponents, while Kylar Booher and Matthew Stieneke were on the losing side of their singles matches.
The two j.v. teams split their four doubles matches, 2-2, with Cherokee’s Kohn and Lundy and Croonquist and Hanson winning their matches and Stieneke / Booher and James Creel / Rodrigo Rivera on the losing end of their matches.
