DeWayne “Ed” Skinner of the Denver, Colorado area, formerly of Cherokee, passed away June 11, 2018 at the age of 94. Services will be held at Shepard of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, Colorado on June 22 at 1 p.m., and burial, with military honors, will be at Fort Logan Cemetery, Staging Area C, on June 26 at 10:15 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Ed was born in Cherokee, Iowa on February 6, 1924, to Helen (Johnson) and Claude DeWayne Skinner. Following his discharge from the Army-Air Force, Ed moved to Denver in 1946. He graduated from the University of Denver, where he met his future wife, Josephine Messina.
After his retirement as a salesman, Ed launched a real estate development business. His interests included skiing, hunting, fishing and bicycling, and was the consummate Denver Bronco fan.
Ed delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of Kiwanis and Sertoma service organizations. He touched many lives throughout his life and leaves behind many life - long friends, returning to Cherokee annually to visit relatives and friends until 2015.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis, and he is survived by his children - Mark (Carol Ann), Carol, Brett and Anne and seven grandchildren - Matthew, Skinner, Diana White, Corey Diaz, Chase and Grant Bort and Laina and Kenna Farnsworth.
