By now, you have probably heard about our 3D Printer. Well, you’ve probably heard about it from me. You’ve also probably heard how fun it is to play with. You’ve also probably heard about all of the dumb things Tyler and I have made (I mean, do I NEED a 3D printed Chewbacca? No. Do I WANT one? Totally). Here’s the great news: YOU, yes, YOU can make things on our 3D printer, too! Get excited about this one, folks.

Last Wednesday, the Board approved our 3D printing policy which states that the general public can use the printer at a small cost! Here’s the cost breakdown: There is a minimum charge of $5.00 (up to 20 grams) and anything more than that will be an additional $0.25. Now, we will not be the ones designing your prints. You have to do that on your own. Once you bring us a .stl file, we will convert it to a file that our printer can recognize. It also shows us how long it will take to print (approximately) and how many grams it will be. WE ALSO RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE A PRINT FOR ANY REASON! Especially if it is illegal or can cause someone harm.

“But, Zach,” you say, “I don’t know how to design or create a file like that! What do I do?!” Well, fear not! This Saturday, Tyler will be hosting a Creatorspace for all ages on how to use the website TinkerCAD. It’s a free design website to help you create 3D prints! Make sure you stop by! Can’t make that? Just ask Tyler or I for a one on one session on how to use the program and we can get a time scheduled.

On a sadder note, our beloved Marilyn will be leaving the library tomorrow. Make sure you stop by to say goodbye on her last day. Her infectious laugh, good humor, and incredibly strong work ethic will be missed here at the library. I will be locked in my office all day, crying.

Are you a local author? Stop by and chat with me about being part of our local author reading series! Starting this Fall, we will be partnering with Mud on Main to spotlight a local author every month. There will be readings, Q&A, and signings from the author themselves! Come let us know how we can help support you!
