Cherokee JV Braves Win Two
Cherokee’s junior varsity Braves clipped Storm Lake 47-45, and hammered MVAOCOU 76-29 in recent basketball action.
In the Storm Lake contest, Cherokee led by four with four minutes to play and saw Storm Lake go on a 6-0 run to take a 45-44 lead with under two minutes to play. The Braves remained composed and executed to get the win.
Jacob Hodgdon called 14 points and five rebounds for the Braves, while Joe Benson was close behind with 13 points. Levi Pingel aided the Braves with six points and seven rebounds. The Braves were 13-30 from field, 3-7 from three, and 12-24 at the line. Cherokee committed 19 turnovers, had six steals and five assists.
In the convincing win over MVAOCoU, Colten Woltman led the charge for Cherokee with 16 points, five rebounds and five steals. Mason Carver was next with 12 points, followed by Joe Benson’s 10 point effort.
Cherokee featured strong scoring balance. Others in the scoring column with nine points each were L Pingel, Will Lugar, Hodgdon, and Mekhi Schemer. Pingel had another strong night on the boards, leading the Braves with eight rebounds.
