SOS Nips MMCRU 61-60
PAULLINA - Three South O’Brien cagers hit double digits here Monday as the lady Wolverines got revenge from an earlier season loss by nipping Class 1A, 15th ranked MMCRU squad 61-60.
Earlier this season, MMCRU topped SOS in an overtime clash, but this time the tables turned as the host Wolverines held on for the one point win. In the boys’ contest, SOS ran away with the win, logging a 64-27 win over the visiting Royals and claiming SOS Coach Kiley Yates’ 300th career win.
Hannah Dau, Megan Waterman and Kaylee Jacobs, all sophomores, turned in double figure performances for SOS with 17, 14 and 13 points, respectively. Waterman led SOS in rebounds with eight, while Dau led in assists with seven.
“I thought our girls played aggressive and helped each other out when needed,” said Erica Dreckman, Wolverine head coach.
Taylor Harpenau, a freshman, led MMCRU in scoring with 21 points, while frosh teammate Ellie Hilbrands added 20. The Royal gals are now 15-5.
SOS gals are now 14-6 on the season.
As Coach Yates pocketed his 300th career win, SOS improved to 15-4 on the season. Jackson Louscher paced the Wolverines with 18 points, with teammate Zeke Lundquist and Alex Prestos netting 13 each. Case Layn led the victors on the boards with eight while Caden Hale dished out six assists.
For MMCRU, Joel Johnson and Andrew Prescott had seven points each.
