3-vehicle crash injures two on County line

Law enforcement officers investigate a 3-vehicle accident that injured two Saturday north of Holstein on U.S. Highway 59. The accident involved a semi and two passenger vehicles.

A three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 59 injured two Saturday, January 16 just north of Holstein on the Cherokee County line.

Those involved in the accident were vehicle one, a 2007 Buick driven by Vivian Nancy Leonard, 16 of Holstein. Vehicle two was a 2011 Buick SUV driven by Jeremiah Ian Coggins, 44 of Holstein. Vehicle three was a 2020 semi stock trailer, driven by Beau Henry Kellenberger, 21 of Lester, Iowa and owned by . BHK Trucking out of Lester.

Leonard was northbound with her blinker on waiting for the southbound vehicle driven by Coggins to pass by. Leonard was attempting to turn west onto 100th Street off Hwy 59. According to authorities, the northbound semi driven by Kellenburger failed to slow down and struck the back of Leonard’s vehicle pushing it into Coggin’s SUV.

Leonard was transferred to Cherokee Regional Medical Center by the Holstein ambulance and Cherokee Ambulance transferred a passenger in Coggins vehicle, Carol Lorrena Wych, 67, of Quimby to CRMC. The extent of injuries was not reported.

The accident was investigated by the Cherokee County and Ida County Sheriff’s Departments, and Iowa State Patrol. Kellenberger was charged with failure to stop within an assured distance.
